Things To Do If You Are Involved In An Auto Accident

  1. Obtain the following information from every vehicle involved:
    • Name, address and date of birth of the owner of the vehicle as described on the automobile's registration and his/her driver's license.
    • Name of the insurance company and the policy number from the insurance card.
    • License plate number and the state of registration.

  2. Obtain the names, addresses and telephone numbers of all witnesses.
  3. Write down the location of the accident (use exits and cross streets).

  4. If any police officers arrive on the scene, obtain their names and badge numbers.

  5. If you have been injured, seek medical attention immediately.

  6. Report the accident to your own insurance agent or company. Ask them to send you the no-fault insurance forms.

  7. Never speak with any representative(s) of the other driver or his/her insurance company.

  8. Contact an attorney to protect your legal rights.

What You Need to Know

If It Happens To You

Who will pay my medical and car repair bills if the other driver has no insurance?

Even if the other driver doesn’t have insurance, you may still be covered under state law. Check with our office.

Should I talk to the other driver’s insurance company?

Never speak with any representative(s) of the other driver or his/her insurance company. You may say something that can hurt your case.

What is my case worth?
The value of your case depends on your injuries and any other losses, which can include:

  • Pain and suffering
  • Loss of past and future income
  • Medical expenses
  • Assistance for future expenses
  • Damage to your car

Will hiring a lawyer help my case?
Without help from an experienced personal injury lawyer, you may not realize the value of your claim. The Insurance Research Council found that injured people who use a lawyer receive three and a half times more money than those who do not.
