These days I have been receiving more and more unwanted sales calls on my cell phone as well as on my home phone. I discovered the government has a program to help with this problem. Did you know that the Federal Trade Commission has created the National Do Not Call Registry to help consumers reduce these unwanted sales calls? Signing up for the Registry is free.

You can add your phone number to the Registry by visiting donotcall.gov or by calling 1-888-382-1222 from the phone you want to register.

Most legitimate companies will not call you if your number is on the Registry. If a company is ignoring the Registry, there is a good chance that it’s a scam. If you get these calls, hang up immediately and consider filing a complaint with the FTC.

For more information on the FTC’s National Do Not Call Registry, you can visit their website at: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0108-national-do-not-call-registry

We hope you are finding our consumer alerts useful. And, as always, if you know someone who is struggling with overdue debts, please have them call us for a bankruptcy consultation at 212-315-3755.
